Introducing the No-jsbs micro blogging framework

Why does the world need yet another microblog framework

The short answer, we absolutely do not. However, since I am too lazy to read documentation or do research on what is out there. Instead I wrote one, so much easier than checking out a repo and trying to figure out how to use software from their README.md. Why are you here, anyways, here is a list of features that I wanted and was too lazy to try to find a framework that implements them.

  1. Searchable
  2. Autogenerates RSS feeds
  3. No HTML required
  4. No Javascript
  5. Fully static website including index.html
  6. Super small and easy to deploy

So how did I do, how many of these requirements did I manage?

1. Searchable

Framework Flow Diagram

It uses an LLM to parse the web page and create search terms for the document.

2. Autogenerates RSS feeds

wget -O - http://localhost:7000/feed.php

It is working brilliantly, I am using an LLM for the summary and including link to the static version of the page.

3. No HTML required

To run you place markdown documents in posts, the type the following:

uv run no-jsbs.py blog.noodle-pop.com

This compiles the markdown as static html pages in docs including an index.html file.

4. No Javascript

It can do Javascript if you decide to add it at the bottom via html tags. If you do that, you are a very bad person and deserve to be smacked on the nose with a rolled up newspaper.

5. Fully static website including index.html

Run the above command and then navigate to http://yourhost.com/docs/index.html

You will be able to fully navigate the site and visit all pages.

6. Super small and easy to deploy

It is 3 files and use a pyproject.toml for dependencies.

Installation is as simple as:

git clone https://github.com/noodlepopllc/No-jsbs.git
uv run no-jsbs.py <hostname>

Put your markdown files in posts, it will create a robots.txt and llm.txt files for you. To deploy, copy feed.php, index.php, site.db, robots.txt, llm.txt, posts, images, docs and style.css to your hosts directory.

In conclusion

This may not be the perfect microblog platform. You have to change the index.php and site.css files yourself if you want to customize. However, it creates small self contained indexed site that is pretty easy to update in my opinion. To make even easier could copy files to a github repo that change and just do a git pull on your webhost. Anything you want to do, it is your software now to fork and enjoy.
